FRIENDSHIP WITH THELORD, OUR FATHER

Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? (Genesis 17:17 (KJV)

Abraham was a friend of God. He obeyed and trusted the LORD to fulfil His covenant promise to him and his unborn seed. In his old age, it is written that against hope Abraham believed in hope. In his appointed time when every hope to bear a child as a human both he and his wife was gone, the LORD fulfilled His promise and gave him a son at the age of ninety-nine and Sarah, at a very old age of hundred. These are periods of time in life when people have become so old that every hope of child bearing is over. God proved that with Him nothing shall be impossible to those who trust in Him and who are His friends.

This morning, I strongly felt His Presence around me as my Friend. It was such a great relief because my prayer life has started fluctuating, because of many things I have waited .The song kept ringing in my heart over and over through the night and early hours:

…Promise still stands! Great is your faithfulness, faithfulness!! I’m still in Your Hands, this is my confidence, You never failed me, yet…I see you move, you move the mountain, I believe I see You do it again; You made a way where there is no way…and I believe, I see you do it again…You never fail me, yet (Elevation worship: Do It Again).

The LORD was encouraging me that he never fails. He will come through as he did for Abraham when all hope was lost for him and Sarah.

I remember when the first time He said this to me when He was calling me to full time ministry. I asked Him how I could sustain my family, He answered me that friendship is based on trust. He said that if I don’t trust Him to provide and care for my family, how could He trust me with His Presence, His Spirit. It’s been a walk of faith only. I have trust for everything. Abraham had to continue to trust even when there seemed to be no more hope. When the LORD came by at his 100th year to confirm His covenant with Abraham, he laughed and tried to reason with God concerning Ishmael.

And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!  And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him (Genesis 17:18-19 (KJV)

God is never too late. He made a covenant of mercy and faithfulness to us through the LORD Jesus Christ. His everlasting covenant of mercy to David and his offspring forever, is confirmed through the LORD Jesus.

His assurance of friendship with us is a stronghold in times of dismay knowing that our Father loves us and cares so tenderly for us, and will never fail us. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Let this be our ground of trust that He is our Friend, and as our Friend will never fail us because His faithfulness and mercy endure forever. Finally, the LORD Jesus is our righteousness and justification. Let us cling to Him for our right standing with God and overcome the accuser at all times.
