Daily Devotion: Goodly Inheritance

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit Ecclesiastes 2:26.

This morning, the LORD took me to the book of Isaiah on the word of comfort to His afflicted people. While meditating on that, the above scripture came up in my spirit. It is written that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.  The wise King, Solomon, said that wisdom is the principal thing. It is more precious than gold. The LORD Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God given to us. Therefore, the LORD also gives us knowledge, for the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom giveth life to them that have it (Ecclesiastes 7:12). As we continue to acquire the knowledge of God through His word, knowing Him, we continue to partake of His life, for knowing the LORD is eternal life. He, therefore, delights in the knowledge of Him above sacrifice.

We are encouraged to pursue the knowledge of God through diligent study of His word because knowledge is the source of our wisdom. As we seek and pursue the LORD Jesus through diligent study and obedience to His word as His disciples, the LORD  fills us with the spirit of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, for He delights in us. Wisdom comes with prudence and discretion. It also comes with the spirit of counsel so that we have the discretion and grace to know how to handle every situation. In Christ are all these treasures of wisdom and knowledge. We therefore put on Christ daily and continually abide in Him through His word. It is written that the just shall live by faith, and if anyone draws back, my soul shall not have pleasure in Him. Our faith grows with the diligent study of the Word and our obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit through the Word. Wisdom is applying the knowledge of the word of God to our situations.  This pleases the LORD because we, the just, live by faith in His word (abiding in Christ who is the fountain of our lives). He will thus dwell in us, enabling us to continually walk in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. We therefore walk in the treasures of wisdom and His covenant blessings, which are our inheritance in Christ, Amen!

  1. As I was listening to a song after posting the above message, it impressed in my heart that when we anchor our hope in the LORD, when we trust in His faithfulness and refused to be moved by circumstances: we are abiding in Wisdom.
